Le Morne Brabant

A sanctuary for runaway slaves and a powerful cultural symbol of Mauritius — Le Morne is more than just a mountain. It's home to a cluster of endemic species, including the rare Trochétia Boutoniana, and views from the top stretch across both the south-western and southern lagoons.

Tamarind Falls — Sept Cascades

A dramatic stairway of seven waterfalls cut into a green ravine in the south-west. The hike rewards you with natural pools to swim in and viewpoints that few day-trippers ever see. A guide is required for safety on the technical sections.

  • Hike with guide through forest and along ridge lines

Black River Gorges National Park in Mauritius 03

Black River Gorges

The largest preserved indigenous forest on the island. Spectacular waterfalls, untouched flora and fauna, and a chance to spot the rarest birds in Mauritius — the Echo Parakeet, Mauritian Kestrel and Pink Pigeon. Plenty of trails for every fitness level.

  • Drive to one of the park entrances (Pétrin or Black River)
  • Choose your trail — Macchabée Loop, Parakeet, or to Alexandra Falls

Le Pouce mountain peak in Mauritius 04
Centre · Moka Range

Le Pouce Mountain

The third highest peak on the island, and one of the most iconic features of the landscape. The hike rewards with sweeping views over Port Louis and the Moka Range. Climbed in 1836 by Charles Darwin himself — there are two approaches, from Port Louis (north) and from Moka (south).

  • Drive to either trailhead (Moka or Port Louis side)
  • Steady climb on a well-marked path
  • Final scramble to the iconic "thumb" peak
  • 360° views of the central plateau and capital
